Windows 11 Desktop Technician
firstPRO is seeking a Windows 11 Desktop Technician to provide in-person support for issuing new laptops to employees. These technicians will assist in the transition to 1,500 new laptops, ensuring users can seamlessly switch to their new devices. While the primary role does not involve building or imaging machines, it includes basic hardware and software support, travel, and managing a checklist to complete each laptop issuance. This role requires 3 days per week onsite in Newark, DE, so candidates must be local in order to be considered. Compensation for this role is up to $25/hr., based on experience. This is a 12-month consulting opportunity.
Responsibilities

- Assist users in setting up new laptops, including email setup, software installation, login assistance, and data backup.
- Collect and box old laptops for shipment back to headquarters.
- Support system imaging as required, with imaging handled at a different location.
- Develop project artifacts, including a charter, communication plan, Gantt chart, and timeline.
- Work with technical staff and stakeholders to coordinate project plans, finalize upgrade approaches, and manage inventory for deployments.
- Facilitate user acceptance testing and collaborate on user approval methods.
- Coordinate asset selection, user assignments, and software assessments.
- Roll out the Windows 11 migration in November with a phased approach, supporting approximately 400-500 laptops initially.
- Pre- and post-migration tasks: inventory existing Win10 software, verify OneDrive syncing, set up training for Windows 11 basics, and confirm system check-ins for security and management tools.
Requirements

- 5+ years of IT support experience, with skills in both hardware and software support.
- Familiarity with Windows 11 upgrades, including potential challenges and best practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective in-person support.
- Willingness to travel as needed for in-person support and laptop deployment.
- Experience working through structured checklists to ensure accurate laptop issuance and setup.
- Knowledge of tools related to patch management, asset management, and security scanning, including Intune and Zscaler.
