I started with firstPRO in February 2019, but started my recruiting career in Fall 2013.
What do you do? What’s your day-to-day like?
I help companies fill their open positions, mainly within finance and accounting. I work directly with hiring managers to find out what their ideal candidate looks like and then the search is on! I’m constantly on LinkedIn and other candidate sourcing sites to find the candidates and then once I have someone identified I set up calls, schedule interviews, negotiate compensation, extend offers, etc.
What do you love most about the job?
This is a two-fold answer. Firstly, The incentives are great! I can never see myself in a role where I make the same salary no matter how hard I work. Admittedly, I’m a workaholic. Secondly, There’s always something new! I always come across interesting people whether it be a client or candidate and having to navigate different personalities keeps me on my toes.
What are the biggest challenges in your job?
We aren’t selling an object. Our “product” is a person with emotions and a million things going on in their life, so balancing out your business mindset with empathy can be tough.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’d have to say winning 3 “top performer” trips in a row at my previous company – they take the top 7%. I was lucky enough to go to Cabo, Atlantis in the Bahamas, and Newport Beach California!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?
If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.
What are some of the standout factors you’re looking for when you match candidates with clients?
That’s difficult to narrow down to a few things, because it depends on the client’s needs, but most of the time it’s a mixture of skillset and personality. It’s fun because it is a lot like matchmaking – huge reality dating show fan!
Do you stay in touch with your previous placements?
Yes, absolutely – it is a requirement to be successful in this job! I’ve placed a candidate more than once and your candidates will become your clients and vice versa. One of the best ways to stay in touch is to reach out during the holiday season, so I make it a point to touch base with everyone at a minimum once a year during the holidays.
What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
I’m a bit of a nerd and love to do puzzles! I live in the city, so fortunately it is easy for me to get places. I like checking out new workout classes as well as new restaurants, so the workouts and food balance each other out!
If travel were possible right now, and you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Hmm, at this point I’d take anywhere, ha! But if I had to choose, probably Hawaii.
